For the best experience, you can add the app to your home screen. Momental is built as a progressive web app that comes with its own icon, and utilizes the phone screen better.

Here's how to do so: iOS devices / Android devices.

What do you mean by momentum?

Typical expense tracker apps come with many features, including categories of spending, setting saving goals, and so on. Momental is personally useful to me because it has only one thing I can do, track spending for today.

Compared to tracking my spending across a month, and knowing how much money is left in the "bucket", tracking my spending for the day is a much more acute indicator. These small daily spends add up to a running balance. The balance rolls over if I spend less money on a certain day, and likewise if I overspend (it becomes a negative number). A typical scenario is for me to spend less money on some days of the week, and find myself with a balance at the end of the week that I can splurge on a meal without guilt.

Other information

I created this app as a home-cooked meal.

The "persist storage" feature is built to persist data in your web browser, especially on phones, and to tell phones not to delete your data to clear up space. It corresponds to this Web API.

There is no sync function so the data you input is stored completely on your phone.

There is only usage tracking using Plausible. Specifically, the app is tracking how many individuals start using the app, using a randomly generated string, when you first start using the app. It also tracks when you relaunch the app, and when you enter a spend (but not the details of your spend). The app does not store or track any of the information you enter in the app, including your spend amount, spend notes, balance, start dates & balance.
